A local Press Freedom Observatory has documented 53 violations against press freedom in Yemen during the first half of 2018.

The Observatory, a subsidiary of the Center for Studies and Economic Media Center, said a in a report released on Sunday said Yemeni journalists were murdered, injured, abducted, assaulted, threatened and some media premises were subjected to arson attacks, all in the first six months of this year.

"The most significant was the killing of eight reporters in Taiz, Hodeidah and Beidha," said the report.

The Observatory detailed the violations the press community endured as eight murders, five attempted murders, six injuries, five abductions, six assaults, seven arrests, one attempted assault, three threats, five storming and looting of houses, and one case of incitement. Six arson attacks targeted media institutions.

Fourteen journalists have been in the jails ofthe Houthi militia for the third straight year. One journalist is detained by Al-Qaeda.
