His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Muhammad Al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, received today, Tuesday, at his residence in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, the Ambassador of the United States of America, Steven Fagin, to discuss the latest developments in the Yemeni situation and efforts to bring peace to the country.

In the meeting, the President of the Presidential Leadership Council praised the distinguished Yemeni-American relations, and his appreciation for the US stances on the side of the Yemeni people and their legitimate leadership.

The meeting touched on UN and international efforts to implement the terms of the ongoing truce, and the pressures required to push the Houthi militias to fulfill their obligations under the UN Declaration, and the Stockholm Agreement, especially with regard to opening roads to Taiz and other governorates, and paying employees’ salaries from the revenues of fuel ships arriving through the ports of Hodeidah with the facilitation of the government.

During the meeting, the US ambassador presented the existing and future areas of US support, including humanitarian and development aid, whose appropriations this year exceeded one billion dollars for the first time.

Ambassador Fagin referred to the promising support of the Coast Guard and the Yemeni border guards, in the framework of joint efforts to combat terrorism, in addition to the support provided through the US Agency for Development Aid, especially in the field of building institutional capacities of the Central Bank and the Ministry of Finance, as well as the sectors of health, education, water and sanitation.

The US ambassador also informed the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council of the US government's agreement to resume cultural exchange programs with the Yemeni government, especially the International Visitor Program, after seven years of suspension.

His Excellency the President valued the US government for this support, expressing that it would open wider horizons for strengthening the reforms led by the Presidential Leadership Council, to include rehabilitating the agricultural sector in the country.
