Yemen's Planning Ministry Condemns Houthi Militia's Detention of UN Staff
[02/09/2025 01:03]
Aden - Saba
The Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation in Aden has strongly condemned the arbitrary detention of at least 11 UN staff members by the Houthi militia.

The ministry also denounced the targeting of World Food Programme buildings and the seizure of UN property, as well as attempts to storm other UN premises.

In a statement, the ministry emphasized that these actions constitute a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and undermine efforts to provide life-saving assistance in Yemen's worsening humanitarian crisis.

The ministry called for the immediate and unconditional release of all detained UN staff and respect for diplomatic and legal immunities granted to humanitarian workers under international law.

The ministry urged the international community to pressure the Houthi militia to release the detainees immediately and conduct a prompt and transparent investigation into the incident. It also emphasized the need to hold those responsible for these violations accountable and put an end to such behavior that hinders the work of UN and humanitarian personnel.

The Ministry reaffirmed its full support for the UN and its agencies in relocating to the temporary capital, Aden, and implementing their humanitarian and development tasks from liberated areas, ensuring safe and smooth delivery of aid to civilians in need.
