ADEN - SABA
His Excellency President Dr. Rashad a-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) called on the European Union countries to promptly adopt the European Parliament's decision about enlisting the Houthi militias, their political and military wings, leadership and security organizations, on the EU's list of terrorist organizations.
During a phone call with the President of the European Council, António Costa, today Tuesday, the President stated that the Yemeni government counts on on the Council's role in rallying the member states to turn this important political stance into effective European action and in using all legal, economic and diplomatic tools to stop terrorist attacks by the Houthi militias and to them to comply with International Security Council's resolutions and the will of the Yemeni people.
Al-Alimi stressed that it is high time now for the European Union to make its decisive statement regarding the arrogance of the Houthi militias, whose criminal practices have surpassed all methods of terrorist organizations in terrorizing and targeting civilians, airports and vital facilities, recruiting children, besieging cities, attacking commercial ships and detaining UN and humanitarian workers, which necessitates the application of European anti-terrorism standards after all peaceful options have been exhausted.
The Chairman of the PLC warned that the continuation of Houthi militias attacks inside Yemen and across borders, as well as on international navigation, makes the cost of delay extremely high, saying that European action now could reduce the resources that fund these attacks and enhance the protection of civilians, regional security, and European interests.
He also touched on the ongoing developments in Yemen, citing the grave violations by the Houthi militias, first and foremost of which is the suffocating siege they impose on the residents of Taiz city, including blocking access to water, oil derivatives and basic necessities, as well as acts of killing, abuse, arrests, searches and forced displacement.
The President confirmed that the state and its armed forces, in all their military formations, along with the popular resistance, are moving forward with the 'Yemen Dawn' operation to eliminate the terrorist threat, restore state institutions and take control over the entire national territory.
He remarked that the designation the Houthi militias as a terrorist organization sends a clear message that gaining any benefits through terrorism cannot be accepted under any circumstances.
The Chairman of the PCL highlighted the role of the European Union in supporting the Yemeni people and their government, deeply appreciated its humanitarian interventions and its valued efforts to protect international navigation.
The European Council President confirmed the EU's support for the PLC and the government, and its standing with the Yemeni people in facing current challenges and alleviating their humanitarian suffering.
Costa stated that the European Union is interested in increasing the humanitarian response and easing the suffering of the population, and continuing coordination with the Yemeni government and relevant partners to identify priority needs and ways to meet them quickly.
