The Speaker of the Parliament Sultan al-Barkani conferred today, Monday, with the Speaker of Pakistan's National Assembly Sardar Sadiq over the latest developments in Yemen and the repercussions of the Houthi terrorist militias' escalation and their threats to the security of Saudi Arabia and international waterways in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandeb, as well as the worsening humanitarian situation and the ongoing siege of the city of Taiz.
During the conversations, held via video conference, al-Barkani briefed Sadiq on the developments in Yemen and the practices of the Houthi militias that have undermined the political and democratic process in Yemen and continued their violations against civilians.
He highlighted what the city of Taiz is facing due to the siege and shelling targeting residential neighborhoods, and the ongoing suffering of the population from shortages of food, medicine, water, and fuel.
The Speaker of the Parliament called for effective Arab, Islamic, and international action to put pressure to lift the siege and ensure that humanitarian aid reaches the citizens.
The Speaker of the Pakistani National Assembly confirmed Pakistan’s support for Yemen’s unity and territorial integrity.
He also affirmed Islamabad's support for the ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving peace to meet the aspirations of the Yemeni people, in accordance with UN resolutions and international laws and treaties.
