Yemen Calls on Security Council to Take Strong Measures to Stop Houthi Attacks on Aden International Airport
[29/10/2026 05:23]

NEW YORK - SABA
The Yemeni government has called on the UN Security Council to condemn the repeated attacks by the Iranian-backed Houthi terrorist militias on Aden International Airport and to take deterrent and punitive measures to stop them, protect civilians and civil facilities, and ensure the enforcement of the arms embargo.

This was stated in a letter sent by Yemen's permanent representative to the UN, Ambassador Abdullah al-Saadi, to the President of the Security Council, with a copy referred to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, regarding the escalation of Houthi attacks on the airport.

The message explained that the Houthi militias targeted Aden International Airport on Wednesday, October 28, with a number of ballistic missiles, marking the sixth time this month.
This put the lives of civilians, passengers, and workers at risk and led to the diversion of several flights to other airports to ensure their safety.

The government strongly condemned this escalation, considering the targeting of a civilian airport a war crime and a direct threat to the lives of passengers, flight crews, workers, and the safety of air operations, as well as its impact on citizens' movement and humanitarian efforts.
The militias were held fully responsible for the attacks and their consequences.

The government called on the Security Council, the United Nations and the international community to move instantly to pressure the Houthi militias and their supporters to stop the crimes and violations, especially attacks on civilian facilities and residential areas.

The Yemeni government stressed the need for the full and effective implementation of relevant Security Council resolutions, primarily resolutions 2140 (2014) and 2216 (2015), especially enforcing the arms supply ban on individuals and entities subject to the related measures.

It also called for furthering international cooperation with the Yemeni government to prevent the illegal supply, sale or transfer of ballistic missiles, weapons and their components, as well as related military assistance to the Houthi terrorist
