The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) reviewed progress on the World Bank-funded Food Security Response and Resilience Project in Yemen (FSRRP), which has achieved approximately 70% completion.
Running from August 2021 to March 2028, the project aims to strengthen food security, improve agricultural, livestock and fisheries production, and help households and communities withstand crises and climate shocks. It targets nine governorates: Lahj, Dhalea, Taiz, Abyan, Shabwa, Dhamar, Hudaydah, Hajjah and Al-Jawf.
Key achievements include distributing 518 tonnes of improved seeds to more than 20,000 farmers, establishing 70 seed production groups and 12 community seed banks, and vaccinating and treating more than 5.6 million livestock.
The project has also supported around 1,000 beekeepers and 8,500 vegetable farmers with production inputs and training, established seven fruit tree nurseries, and supported 40 women's groups in food processing.
Other interventions have targeted dairy and fisheries value chains, fishermen, fish quality laboratories, home gardens, drip irrigation, hydroponics, greenhouses and livestock-owning households.
