GENEVA – SABA
Human Rights Minister Mashdal Omar discussed Wednesday with Dr. Mohammed al-Nsour, the Head of the Middle East and North Africa Section at the UN Human Rights Office the human rights situation in Yemen and the humanitarian consequences of escalating Houthi attacks.
The minister highlighted the forced displacement of more than 250,000 people, the challenges facing displaced families in Aden and Lahj, and the risks posed by a renewed siege of Taiz, including restrictions on food, medicine, and fuel supplies.
He urged the UN to clearly condemn Houthi violations, hold those responsible accountable, lift the siege, and ensure humanitarian aid reaches civilians.
Dr. al-Nsour reaffirmed the UN office’s monitoring of developments in Taiz and said it was considering issuing an urgent statement on the city’s worsening humanitarian situation.
