Real Madrid began their La Liga campaign with a 2-1 away victory over Espanyol in the second round of the competition on Sunday.

England international Jude Bellingham opened the scoring for Real Madrid in the ninth minute, before Alex Calatrava equalized for Espanyol in the 30th minute. Substitute Carlos Espejo scored the winning goal for Real Madrid in the final minute of the match.

The victory gave Real Madrid their first three points under Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho as they seek to reclaim the league title after Barcelona won it in the past two seasons.

In two other matches, Sevilla defeated hosts Athletic Bilbao 3-1 to claim their second victory and move to the top of the standings with six points.

Valencia were held to a goalless draw at home by Celta Vigo.
