ADEN - SABA
Member of the Presidential Leadership Council Maj. Gen. Aidaroos al-Zubaidi received the head of the EU mission in Yemen, Gabriel Viñales, and the ambassadors of France, Germany, and the Netherlands in the presidential palace in Aden, today.
Talks covered the economic impact due to the halt of oil and gas exports, and the suffering residents of the temporary capital Aden are experiencing due to the shortage of power and water supplies, and the delayed payment of salaries.
In this respect, Maj. Gen. al-Zubaidi called the EU and donor countries to strengthen their support and humanitarian aid to salvage the economic situation, curb the collapse of the national currency, and help the government assume its responsibilities towards the public.
Talks also went over the recent measures taken by the Central Bank's leadership to stop Houthi tampering with the economy. In this regard, Maj. Gen. al-Zubaidi confirmed the Presidential Leadership Council and government's support for these measures, being the best way to subjugate the Houthi militia and drain the sources for funding their terror.
They discussed the latest developments in regards to prospects of peace led by the UN efforts to end the conflict and bring peace to Yemen and the region; the UN road map and its consequences given the persistent Houthi escalation in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab, and the mobilization process and the ongoing attacks by that militia on the Al-Dhalea, Karsh, and Shabwa fronts and Marib.
In this respect, al-Zubaidi reiterated that stopping Houthi escalation and keeping the militia at bay is a basic condition for any political process.
He noted that the chances for peace have diminished in light of the Houthi intransigence and insistence on persisting with terrorism, which mainly targets our people and their food security.
For their part, the head of the European Union mission and the ambassadors confirmed their countries’ support for the Presidential Leadership Council, its cohesion and unity of stance, and their support for the efforts to alleviate the humanitarian situation, stop the economic collapse and provide basic services to the public, especially electricity.
