Public Works Minister discusses UNOPS' interventions

The Minister of Public Works and Roads Engineer Salem Aboud al-Harizi discussed with the Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) Rihanna Zwara the interventions of the office and the support of development projects in the country.

The meeting, which was attended by the Deputy Minister of Public Works and Roads Dr. Mohammad Ahmed Thabit and the Undersecretary of the Ministry for the Public Works Sector Engineer Hussain Aqrabi touched on the UNOPS-funded interventions for road projects in Yemen.

During the meeting, Minister al-Harizi reviewed the emergency needs of the eastern governorates whose infrastructure has been damaged due to climate changes, stressing the importance of the intervention of the Project Services Office in coordination and cooperation with the Road and Bridges Maintenance Fund and the Public Corporation for Roads to implement strategic projects in the roads and bridges sector and take the necessary measures to address the effects of climate change and mitigate the risks and natural disasters.

He stressed the need to unify the visions and ideas between the Ministry and UNOPS with donors and to determine the directions and priorities of support towards projects with sustainable impact, especially some stalled projects, including the model housing project for low-income people in the liberated governorates.

For her part, the UN official emphasized the importance of strengthening the partnership and visions between the two sides to enhance their work to improve development and service projects in Yemen.
