SANA'A - SABA
The Houthi militia have imposed a 50% in the militia's illegal taxes on the population under their control.
Informed sources told Saba the militia "have imposed 50% additional fees on students in schools and patients in healthcare centers under the pretext of affording salaries for the teachers and medical staff."
A school teacher in Sana'a who identifies himself only as A.M said, "The militia oblige all public schools to levy fees from students under various pretexts every now and then."
He said this practice "is leading to the dropout of many students." "Education is supposed to be free for all Yemenis, but imposing these fees had made many householders to stop educating their daughters and under the financial strain choose to teach only their boys."
The taxes which the militia use to raise war funds have become an unbearable burden for many families especially at a time when public employees are not receiving their salaries since September 2016.
