Heavy rain falls and floods caused by the (Luban) tropical storm have seriously damaged major drinking water wells in the area of "Fory" which provide Al-Gheidh, the central city of Al-Maharah with water supplies.
Deputy Director of Water and Sanitation Corporation Eng. Tariq Al-Kindi told the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) key water wells along with the electricity generator which operates the well have been completely overwhelmed by floods." Drinking water wells now are out of service", said Al-Kindi.
Al-Kindi warned of a humanitarian disaster unless the drinking water wells reinstated immediately.
The heavy floods are also reported to have swept large portion of water distribution network.
