The Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation for the Irrigation and Land Reclamation Sector Eng. Ahmed al-Zamki discussed today, Tuesday, in the temporary capital Aden, with a team from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) the Water and Irrigation Management Improvement Project for sustainability and efficiency in Yemen.
The project aims to develop water resource management, improve water use efficiency, and support adaptation to the impacts of climate change.
The project is implemented by UNDP in cooperation with the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), funded by the World Bank Group.
The first phase is focused on the Tuban Basin in Lahj governorate and Wadi Hajar in Hadramout governorate.
The project components include developing a Climate and Water Information Management System (CWIMS), updating monitoring networks and meteorological and groundwater data, improving integrated management of water and irrigation basins, rehabilitating dams, ponds, tanks and canals, protecting riverbanks, restoring agricultural terraces and farm infrastructure, as well as supporting water user associations, basin committees, and local offices and building their capacities.
