Foreign Minister and Expatriates Dr. Afrah al-Zouba participated Tuesday in the annual consultative meeting of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level, held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

Chaired by Tunisian Foreign Minister and Migration and Tunisians Abroad Mohamed Nafti, the meeting reviewed Arab and regional developments, particularly the Palestinian cause, as well as political, security and humanitarian developments in the region and issues on the UN General Assembly agenda.

The ministers stressed the importance of continued consultation and coordination, strengthening joint Arab action, supporting regional security and stability, and safeguarding Arab interests in international forums, while underscoring respect for international law and freedom of maritime navigation.

The meeting also addressed Iranian attacks targeting Gulf Cooperation Council states and their implications for regional security and stability.

Regarding Yemen, the ministers discussed the latest developments and the recent escalation by the Houthi militia along the western coast and in the Bab al-Mandab Strait, warning of its threat to regional security, stability and international maritime navigation. They stressed the importance of supporting the legitimate Yemeni government and state institutions, halting Iranian interference and the flow of weapons to the militia, in implementation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

Yemen’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Abdullah al-Saadi, Deputy Permanent Representative Ambassador Ahmed al-Sharabi, and Foreign Minister’s Office member Akram Salam attended the meeting.
