Prime Minister Dr. Shaya Zindani received Monday the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Resident Representative in Yemen Nora Hamladji.

The meeting discussed priorities for cooperation and the UNDP’s role in supporting economic recovery, institutional reform, and sustainable development.

At the outset of the meeting, the Prime Minister welcomed the new Resident Representative, wishing her success in her duties.

He expressed the government’s plan to further develop its partnership with the UNDP in a way that goes beyond responding to the effects of the crisis to supporting Yemenis and state institutions in overcoming its consequences.

Dr. Zindani briefed the UN official on the seriousness of the recent escalation by the Houthi terrorist militia, including attacks targeting civilians, residential areas, and displacement camps, which have resulted in new waves of displacement.

He stressed that protecting civilians and displaced people remains a top priority for the government, which is working with international partners to respond to urgent humanitarian needs.

He also highlighted the government’s progress in implementing an integrated institutional, economic, financial, and administrative reform process, describing it as an essential prerequisite for restoring the efficiency of state institutions, improving public services, strengthening transparency, accountability, and governance, and ensuring sound management of resources.

He stressed that supporting state institutions and building their capacities must be at the core of international partnership priorities.

The Prime Minister noted that the government looks forward to a greater role for the UNDP in supporting institutional reform, capacity building, digital transformation, and enhancing the efficiency of government institutions, in a manner that ensures international assistance and expertise are translated into sustainable national capacities.

He also stressed the need for UNDP projects and development partners to align with national priorities and place greater emphasis on projects that generate sustainable economic and social impact.

For her part, the UN official affirmed the UNDP’s commitment to continuing and strengthening its partnership with the Yemeni government and supporting its priorities in the areas of recovery, development, capacity building, and governance. She expressed the program’s readiness to work with the government to expand areas of cooperation and achieve a more sustainable impact.
