Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr. Afrah al-Zouba discussed Monday with Secretary-General of the Arab League Ambassador Nabil Fahmy the latest developments in Yemen and the region.

Ways to strengthen coordination within the framework of joint Arab action were touched upon.

The expressed Yemen’s aspiration to strengthen cooperation with the General Secretariat in a manner that would contribute to enhancing the League’s role and the effectiveness of joint Arab action.

Al-Zouba briefed the Secretary-General on developments in Yemen amid the continued escalation by the terrorist Houthi militia, including attacks on civilian targets and vital facilities, violations against civilians, and threats to maritime security in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait. She noted that the repercussions of the Houthi escalation extend beyond Yemen’s borders, affecting Arab national security, the safety of maritime routes, and regional and international economic interests.

She stressed the Yemeni government’s right and responsibility to extend state sovereignty over the country’s entire territory, territorial waters, and airspace.

She called for effective Arab support to enable the Yemeni government to fulfill its responsibilities and prevent Yemen from being used as a platform to threaten neighboring countries in service of a regional agenda.

The Foreign Minister also emphasized the importance of placing the Yemeni issue among the priorities of joint Arab action and restoring Yemen’s active role within its Arab sphere, in a way that strengthens coordination with brotherly Arab countries and serves shared interests.

For his part, the Secretary-General reaffirmed the Arab League’s support for the Yemeni government and state institutions, as well as Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

He also stressed the importance of continuing efforts to reform and develop the framework of joint Arab action and enhance its effectiveness, while intensifying coordination on the security of the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, given their direct connection to Arab national security and the safety of international navigation and trade.
