Minister of Water and Environment Eng. Tawfiq al-Sharjabi discussed Sunday with the UNDP Resident Representative in Yemen Nora Hamladji ways to enhance cooperation and partnership between the Ministry and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
Program’s projects and interventions in the water and environmental sectors were also discussed.
The meeting reviewed areas of ongoing cooperation between the two sides, as well as the key projects and programmes being implemented by the UNDP in partnership with the Ministry and its affiliated institutions and entities.
They also discussed the progress of these initiatives and their contribution to supporting the water and environmental sectors and improving the level of services provided to local communities.
The two sides discussed the main challenges and obstacles hindering the implementation of a number of projects and programmes, along with ways to address and overcome them in order to enhance the effectiveness of interventions, accelerate implementation, and achieve their development objectives.
The meeting also addressed ongoing preparations for Yemen’s participation in the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP31), scheduled to be held in Antalya, Türkiye, and ways to strengthen coordination between the Ministry and the UNDP in this regard.
Minister al-Sharjabi emphasized the importance of strengthening partnership and coordination with the United Nations Development Programme to ensure that support and interventions are directed toward the actual priorities of the water and environmental sectors.
He also stressed the importance of benefiting from available expertise and resources to develop existing projects and address the challenges facing their implementation.
He further underscored the need to coordinate efforts in preparation for Yemen’s participation in COP31 and to highlight the country’s priorities and needs in the field of climate change.
The Minister praised the role played by the UNDP in supporting the government’s efforts, affirming the Ministry’s commitment to developing cooperation and coordination mechanisms in a manner that strengthens the sustainability of projects and services and supports recovery and development efforts in the water and environmental sectors.
For her part, the UNDP Resident Representative affirmed the Program’s commitment to continuing cooperation and coordination with the Ministry and supporting priority projects in the water and environmental sectors, in a way that contributes to strengthening the sustainability of services and supporting recovery and development efforts in Yemen.
