Yemen’s Minister of Water and Environment Tawfiq al-Sharjabi discussed on Monday with Rayhana Zawar, the Country Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) projects implemented in several Yemeni governorates.

The two parties discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between them.

The meeting assessed progress on completed projects and their impact on improving water and environmental services and addressing the needs of local communities.

The two sides also reviewed challenges and delays that affected the implementation of some projects.

Al-Sharjabi and Zawar said the delays and implementation challenges had not affected the core outcomes or quality of the projects, adding that completed projects had met their objectives in line with established standards.

Al-Sharjabi described UNOPS as a key partner in implementing projects in Yemen’s water and environmental sectors.

He said the ministry was committed to strengthening cooperation with UNOPS and coordinating the implementation of priority projects to improve services and respond to growing needs.

Zawar reaffirmed UNOPS’ commitment to its partnership with the Ministry of Water and Environment and praised the level of cooperation and coordination between the two sides.

She said UNOPS was looking to continue working with the ministry and explore new funding opportunities, particularly as needs in the water sector increase and Yemen faces challenges linked to climate change.

Zawar also highlighted the importance of accessing climate and biodiversity financing mechanisms to support projects addressing Yemen’s growing water and environmental needs.
