ADEN - SABA
His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Muhammad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, received today, Tuesday, the British Ambassador to the Republic of Yemen Abda Sharif.
They discussed Yemeni-British bilateral relations and cooperation, the developments in national and regional arenas as well as joint efforts to boost regional security and stability.
The President praised the historic relations between the Republic of Yemen and the United Kingdom (UK) , highly appreciating the British supportive stances in support of the internationally recognized Yemeni government, regional security and maritime routes.
He stated that he is looking forward to further advance the bilateral partnership, especially in areas of supporting state institutions, economic recovery, and building sustainable peace.
The President asserted that Yemen is entering today a new phase of taking the lead, thanks to the changes that have taken place over the recent years in the balance of powers. This includes rebuilding the State's civil, military and security institutions and firming up their ability to carry out their national responsibilities, providing a clearer vision, greater institutional cohesion and a united political will to continue restoring State institutions.
The Chairman of the PLC highlighted the unprecedented harmony and cohesion among State institutions regarding various national commitments, demonstrating unity in vision and purpose in preparation for the next stage.
The President emphasized the importance of dealing with the facts on the ground as they are, stressing that the Yemeni government has never imposed a blockade on citizens in the Houthi terrorist militias-controlled areas. Instead, it has been very keen to keep the ports open, maintain imports, and ensure the flow of food, medicine, and essential goods.
He made it clear that the real cause of the humanitarian disaster is the continued seizure of State institutions and the use of their resources to serve the coup project.
" Ending the humanitarian suffering starts with addressing its root causes and restoring the State and its sovereignty over all its territory", he said.
The Chairman of the PLC also reaffirmed that Yemen is not asking its partners and friends to fight its battle. We don't want our partners and friends to fight our battle, but rather we're looking for a consistent international stance that supports the Yemeni State and its official institutions, and rejects the enforcement of Iranian militias as a means of extortion and obtaining illegitimate gains, he noted.
The President remarked that the stability of Yemen represents a shared regional and international interest, and that protecting the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandeb, and freedom of international navigation starts with having a strong State on Yemeni land.
He stressed that supporting the Yemeni State today is a direct investment in global trade security, regional stability and the protection of international law.
The President praised the key role played by the UK as the penholder on the Yemen file in the Security Council.
He greatly appreciated the British significant efforts for supporting international legitimacy decisions, rallying support for the political process based on agreed-upon references, and enhancing the security and stability of Yemen and the region.
President al-Alimi reiterated the Republic of Yemen's welcome for the maritime coalition aimed at protecting international navigation, highly appreciating Saudi Arabia's leading role in enhancing the security of the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandeb.
He emphasized that supporting the Yemeni State and its official institutions remains the main pillar for achieving sustainable security of waterways, global trade and eliminating sources of threat while deterring their supporters.
The British Ambassador reiterated the UK's support for the PLC, the Yemeni government and the their efforts to restore security and stability, the comprehensive peace, and promoting partnership with Yemen in various fields.
