The Yemeni government and a delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IFM) concluded talks about monitoring program today, Thursday, in Amman, Jordan, with the participation of the Governor of the Central Bank of Yemen (CBY) Ahmed Ghalib, the Minister of Finance Marwan Faraj, and representatives of the relevant government bodies.

The IMF delegation included the Head of the IMF Mission to the Republic of Yemen Esther Ruiz Perez and the IMF Regional Office in Amman, headed by the IMF Resident Representative in Yemen Dr. Mohammed Jaber.

The two sides agreed at the experts’ level on the economic and financial policy memorandum (MEFP) and the technical memorandum of understanding (TMU), which form the basis of the IMF monitoring program.

This is a step towards completing the related institutional procedures in accordance with the frameworks and procedures approved by the Republic of Yemen and the IMF.

The program aims to support the efforts of the Yemeni authorities in restoring economic and financial stability, enhancing public finance sustainability, maintaining price and exchange rate stability, improving the management of monetary and fiscal policies, strengthening the independence of the CBY, developing the financial sector and payment systems, as well as promoting transparency and governance.

The talks covered economic, financial, and monetary developments, priorities for reform, and policies and measures aimed at strengthening macroeconomic stability, reinforcing fiscal and monetary discipline, bolstering economic institutions, and promoting governance and transparency.

The government reiterated its commitment to go on implementing a realistic and feasible reform program, based on national priorities and taking into account the exceptional circumstances the country is going through, amidst national challenges and regional and international developments
The government also expressed its appreciation for the constructive cooperation shown by the IMF mission during the talks, as well as for the technical support and advice provided by the Fund.
