RIYADH - SABA
His Excellency President Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) received today, Thursday, the Acting U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Yemen Jonathan Peccia.
They conferred over Yemeni-American bilateral relations and cooperation, regional and international developments of common interest.
President al-Alimi celebrated the robust Yemeni-American relations and cooperation in different fields, greatly appreciating the U.S. Key role in supporting Yemen's security and stability, combating terrorism, and protecting the security of the region and its waterways.
He also expressed his appreciation for the stance of the international community at the emergency session of the Security Council, and its clear condemnation of Iran's violations of Yemen's sovereignty, holding the Iranian regime responsible for supporting the Houthi militias in a blatant challenge to the legitimate resolutions of the state, especially Resolution 2216.
The Chairman of the PLC made it clear the country's approach to recent developments stems from its legal and ethical responsibility as a member state of the United Nations, committed to protecting its sovereignty and avoiding being drawn into an expanding conflict, away from the main objective for which the armed forces were mobilized.
He added that this behavior illustrates the difference between a responsible state that adheres to international law and militias that do not hesitate to use civilians as human shields in their senseless conflicts.
Exercising restraint was not a concession of sovereignty, but a responsible practice of it, al-Alimi stressed.
The President reaffirmed the state's commitment to taking all legal measures to protect its airspace and national sovereignty, saying that the Republic of Yemen will not allow any foreign plane to enter or land at any Yemeni airport in the future without the approval of the legitimate government.
The Chairman of the PLC made it crystal clear that the government has never closed Sana’a Airport, as the militias claim, but has provided all legal alternatives for operating the airport through the national carrier, Yemenia Airways.
He stated that it is the militias who rejected these solutions because they want to use the airport as a tool to impose facts on the ground and to serve the Houthi leadership and their families, rather than serving all Yemenis without discrimination.
