CAIRO – SABA
Governor of the Central Bank of Yemen Ahmed Ghaleb stated that “the coming phase will witness notable growth in trade and investment activity between Yemen and Egypt, amid technological developments in the global banking sector.”
Speaking at the opening of the Yemeni-Egyptian Banking Cooperation Forum, held in the Egyptian capital Cairo on Sunday with the participation of the Yemeni Banks Association and the Federation of Egyptian Banks, Ghaleb noted that many Yemeni capitals have become major names in Egypt’s investment sector, which will contribute to increasing the volume of trade exchange between the two brotherly countries.
The Governor of the Central Bank of Yemen stressed the importance of holding the forum amid the economic and financial challenges facing the region, highlighting the need to unify visions, ideas, and solutions between Yemen and Egypt.
He added that the meeting would open new horizons for cooperation, exchange of expertise, and support for members of the Yemeni community in Egypt.
For his part, Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt Hassan Abdullah welcomed the anticipated partnerships between banking institutions in both countries, as well as efforts to develop financial governance, digital transformation, and cybersecurity in a manner that contributes to achieving financial stability.
He affirmed the readiness of the Central Bank of Egypt and Egyptian commercial banks to provide training services for Yemeni banking professionals, enhance their expertise through accumulated experience, and establish continuous cooperation between the banking institute and relevant authorities in Yemen, particularly as the institute provides numerous banking certifications across various fields.
The forum discussed, through three consecutive sessions, several topics including compliance, risk management, combating money laundering, facilitating financial transfers, serving the Yemeni community in the Arab Republic of Egypt, and economic and trade relations between the two countries.
