MARIB – SABA
Member of the Presidential Leadership Council and Governor of Marib Sultan al-Arada received today the European Union Ambassador to Yemen Patrick Simonet and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Janette Seppen.
He discussed with them latest political, economic and humanitarian developments, as well as ways to strengthen partnership and cooperation with the international community.
The member of the Presidential Leadership Council welcomed the two ambassadors to Marib Governorate, praising the positions of the European Union and the Netherlands in supporting the Yemeni people and its political leadership, as well as their active role in supporting humanitarian and development programs.
He affirmed the commitment of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to continue implementing reforms, strengthening the presence of state institutions, and alleviating the humanitarian suffering experienced by the Yemeni people as a result of the war initiated by the Iran-backed Houthi terrorist militias.
The Council member pointed out that the continued intransigence of the Houthi militias and their threats to regional and international security and stability, as well as maritime navigation, represent the main obstacle facing all UN efforts. He stressed the importance of the international community assuming its responsibilities by pressuring the militias to comply with international resolutions.
Al-Arada also emphasized the importance of increasing international support for the government and backing its efforts aimed at achieving economic recovery and meeting humanitarian and development needs.
This, he said, would strengthen state institutions’ ability to fulfill their obligations toward citizens, consolidate security and stability, and achieve sustainable development.
He highlighted the Presidential Leadership Council and government’s commitment to creating an appropriate environment for the success of humanitarian and development projects and facilitating the work of donors to ensure that aid and services reach beneficiaries and achieve the desired impact on the ground.
Al-Arada praised the existing partnership with the European Union and the Netherlands and their efforts in supporting humanitarian response, financing development and service projects, and providing contributions that help alleviate the suffering of Yemenis while enhancing opportunities for development and stability.
He highlighted the importance of expanding partnerships and gradually moving from emergency relief interventions toward sustainable development programs and economic recovery initiatives, in a way that strengthens local communities’ ability to face challenges.
For their part, the European Union and the Netherlands ambassadors affirmed the continued support of the European Union and the Netherlands for the Presidential Leadership Council and the government, as well as their backing for all positive efforts and the strengthening of cooperation and partnership with Yemen across various fields.
They renewed their commitment to continuing humanitarian and development assistance, supporting economic recovery programs, and enhancing institutional capacity-building in a manner that contributes to strengthening stability and achieving sustainable development.
The two ambassadors also reiterated the European Union and the Netherlands’ commitment to supporting vital sectors, in addition to backing projects aimed at empowerment and creating sustainable economic opportunities for local communities.
They affirmed that the European Union and the Netherlands support efforts aimed at achieving stability and improving opportunities for development and prosperity for the Yemeni people.
