President of the Presidential Leadership Council Dr. Rashad Mohammed al-Alimi warned on Monday that any ceasefire arrangements that fail to address the conduct of the Iranian regime in using armed militias as cross-border tools would remain fragile and would not lead to a sustainable solution to regional instability.

President al-Alimi made the remarks during his meeting with Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye to Yemen Emrullah İşler.

The Turkish diplomat conveyed greetings from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to President al-Alimi, along with his wishes for continued health and for the Yemeni government and people to enjoy security, stability, and peace.

In turn, President al-Alimi conveyed his greetings to President Erdoğan, as well as to the Turkish government and people, wishing them further progress and prosperity.

The meeting reviewed the strong bilateral relations between Yemen and Türkiye and explored prospects for enhancing and developing cooperation in various fields. It also discussed the latest developments in Yemen and the wider region, along with issues of mutual concern.

President al-Alimi praised the deep historical relations between the two countries and the strong humanitarian and cultural bonds between their peoples. He also commended Türkiye’s humanitarian, relief, and development support to Yemen, including the role of Turkish official and charitable organisations in alleviating humanitarian suffering.

He expressed appreciation for Türkiye’s hosting of thousands of Yemenis who were forced to leave the country due to the Houthi coup backed by the Iranian regime, noting the opportunities provided in residence, education, healthcare, and employment, as well as continued access for Yemeni students to Turkish universities.

The President welcomed the resumption of Turkish support and cooperation programmes, stressing the importance of building on this step in line with the priorities of the Yemeni government, particularly in higher education, health, infrastructure, electricity, and energy.

He also expressed hope for the convening of the Joint Ministerial Committee and noted the growing trade exchange between the two countries despite the ongoing war conditions caused by the Houthi militias.

President al-Alimi reviewed government reforms aimed at strengthening institutions, improving public revenues, enhancing basic services, and unifying security and military decision-making, in coordination with Saudi Arabia in support of stability in liberated areas.

He stressed that Yemen’s concern regarding Iran is not limited to the nuclear file, but also extends to broader regional policies that have enabled and supported proxy militias, undermining state sovereignty and threatening regional security and international maritime routes.

The President affirmed that lasting peace requires respect for state sovereignty, good neighbourliness, an end to support for militias, cutting off their funding and arms supplies, and ensuring that the state alone retains control over decisions of war and peace.
