The Operations Room of the “Masam” Project for Mine Clearance in Yemen announced that, since the beginning of June until the 12th of the month, its teams have managed to remove 2,843 mines, unexploded ammunition and explosive devices.
The operation is a part of the team's efforts to secure areas affected by remnants of war and protect civilians.
A statement issued by the Operations Room and published by the Masam Project’s media office explained that the materials removed since the beginning of the month included 2,708 items of unexploded ordnance, 104 anti-tank mines, 29 anti-personnel mines, and two explosive devices.
The engineering teams also cleared 635,652 square meters of Yemeni land.
In the Midi District of Hajjah Governorate, Masam teams achieved a new milestone by raising the total number of mines, unexploded ordnance and explosive devices removed since the start of their work in the area to 10,178, in addition to clearing 3,276,724 square meters of land.
Masam Project Director General Osama al-Qusaibi also announced that, since the project’s launch at the end of June 2018 until June 12 of this year, the project teams have removed 567,182 mines, unexploded ordnance, and explosive devices as part of ongoing humanitarian efforts to protect civilians and clear Yemeni territory of war remnants.
Al-Qusaibi stated, in a statement published by the project’s media office, that the total number of items removed since the project’s inception included 399,806 pieces of unexploded ordnance, 151,554 anti-tank mines, 7,358 anti-personnel mines, and 8,464 explosive devices.
Al-Qusaibi affirmed that these achievements reflect the continued humanitarian efforts undertaken by the Masam Project to address the threats posed by mines and unexploded ordnance, reduce their impact on civilians, contribute to enhancing security and stability, and improve humanitarian conditions across various Yemeni governorates.
