Yemen’s Minister of Transport, Mohsen Al-Amri, held talks in Aden on Tuesday with European Union Ambassador to Yemen Patrick Simonnet on ways to deepen collaboration in sea, air, and road transport, and on backing infrastructure and logistics initiatives across the country.

During the meeting, Al-Amri presented the ministry’s strategic outlook, aligned with the government’s broader plan to modernize transport networks. He said the goal is to raise service standards for the public, strengthen Yemen’s links to global trade routes and ports, and stimulate commercial and economic activity.

He outlined ongoing efforts to upgrade and expand Yemeni airports, including proposals to convert several regional airports to international status. He also detailed steps being taken to enhance maritime transport operations and improve their efficiency.

Al-Amri reviewed the current status of the General Authority for Land Transport and proposals to bolster its mandate and update its institutional framework. He further highlighted challenges facing the Yemen Shipyards Company and the Public Transport Corporation, noting the resources and support required to help them operate more effectively.

The minister emphasized that the ministry is prioritizing a more attractive investment climate in all transport sectors. He pointed to a set of reforms and incentives designed to encourage private sector participation and draw investment to upgrade infrastructure and improve performance.
