ADEN – SABA
Minister of Water and Environment, Engineer Tawfiq al-Sharjabi signed onWednesday two agreements for the third phase of the “Relief of Resilience” project with Samaritan's Purse to implement eight water and environmental sanitation projects in the governorates of Aden and Taiz.
The two agreements, which are expected to benefit around 180,000 people in the two governorates, aim to improve water and sanitation services, enhance access to safe drinking water, reduce the spread of waterborne diseases, and increase the efficiency of water infrastructure in the targeted areas.
They also seek to promote hygiene practices and build the capacity of local communities in the sustainable management and operation of water and sanitation facilities.
The first agreement includes the implementation of four water and sanitation projects in the districts of al-Wazi’iyah and Makha in Taiz Governorate.
The projects aim to improve access to safe drinking water through the construction of solar-powered wells, water distribution networks, rehabilitation of water tanks, and improvements to operation and maintenance facilities.
The projects will also enhance sanitation facilities and promote hygiene practices in the targeted areas, contributing to better health outcomes and economic well-being for vulnerable groups affected by water scarcity, while reducing the spread of waterborne diseases and strengthening local community capacities in water and sanitation management.
The second agreement includes four water and sanitation projects in the districts of Dar Saad and al-Buraiqah in Aden Governorate. These projects involve rehabilitating wells and water networks, constructing and expanding distribution tanks, improving water sources in the Bir Ahmed field, as well as building sanitation facilities and strengthening community hygiene activities.
The projects also include training water committees and community health volunteers, along with implementing health awareness programs, which will contribute to improving water resource management efficiency and enhancing services provided to residents.
Minister al-Sharjabi affirmed that signing these agreements reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to provide water and sanitation services in priority areas, especially those hosting large numbers of displaced people.
He also stressed the ministry’s commitment to improving service infrastructure and strengthening effective partnerships with international organizations.
The Minister of Water and Environment praised the role played by Samaritan's Purse and expressed the ministry’s aspiration for further cooperation to implement projects that help alleviate citizens’ suffering and promote community stability.
