Minister of State Waleed al-Qudaimi met today, on the sidelines of the 10th Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) Dialogue, with the Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to India Issa al-Shibani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Mauritius Dhananjay Ramful and the Secretary-General of the Indian Ocean Rim Association Sanjiv Ranjan.
During his meeting with the Omani ambassador, al-Qudaimi discussed the historic fraternal relations between Yemen and Oman, as well as ways to enhance cooperation across various fields.
He reviewed the latest developments in Yemen and the region, along with regional and international efforts aimed at achieving security and stability.
He stressed the importance of continued coordination on issues of mutual concern, reaffirming the depth of Yemeni-Omani relations and the need to strengthen them in a way that serves shared interests and supports regional stability.
The Minister of State also met with the Foreign Minister of Mauritius, where they discussed ways to develop bilateral relations and prospects for cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
They also explored enhancing economic and trade cooperation, as well as exchanging information and expertise in maritime security to help protect shipping lanes and strengthen stability in the Indian Ocean region.
Both sides emphasized their commitment to maritime security, capacity building, and advancing cooperation to serve their shared interests.
The Mauritius Foreign Minister expressed his country’s support for the Yemeni government led by President Rashad Mohammed al-Alimi, and for efforts aimed at ending the Houthi coup, achieving peace, and preserving Yemen’s unity, security, and territorial integrity.
Minister al-Qudaimi also met with the Secretary-General of the Indian Ocean Rim Association, discussing several issues related to maritime security and strengthening regional cooperation among member states.
The meetings highlighted the importance of joint efforts to protect maritime routes and international trade lines, particularly in light of current challenges in the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean, given their strategic importance to the global economy and trade.
The Secretary-General reaffirmed the organization’s support for the legitimate Yemeni government and praised Yemen’s role in protecting international shipping routes and enhancing maritime security.
