Minister of Human Rights, Mashdal Omar, reviewed on Saturday the conditions of inmates at the Central Prison in the temporary capital, Aden, examining various service and legal aspects as part of the ministry’s efforts to strengthen direct oversight of correctional facilities.

During the visit, accompanied by the Head of the Prisons Authority, Major General Saleh Abdulhabib, Public Prosecution representative Judge Nasser Madhesh, and member of the Prosecution for Prisons and Investigations Judge Salah Al-Janidi, the minister toured different sections of the prison, including the women’s facility.

The delegation assessed the conditions of 582 male and female inmates, including the quality of food and essential services provided, and reviewed the extent of compliance with human rights standards.

Minister Omar also listened to a briefing from the prison director, Lieutenant Colonel Imad Rashad, on the current situation inside the facility, key challenges, operational readiness, and the most pressing needs and obstacles hindering improvements in detention conditions, along with proposed solutions to enhance rehabilitation and reform standards.
