The Minister of Finance Marwan bin Ghanem met today, Tuesday, in the temporary capital Aden, with the UN Special Envoy to Yemen Hans Grundberg and his accompanying delegation.

The talks focused on the government efforts aimed at maintaining financial discipline, controlling the banking sector and the government's priorities in restoring macroeconomic stability, enhancing public finance, managing foreign currency and ensuring the continuity of essential services.

The conversations also touched upon the effects of the recent escalation in the region, the repercussions of the crisis in the Middle East on the Yemeni economy and the features of the state general budget for the year 2026, which focuses on rationalizing expenditures, prioritizing public sector salaries and essential services, financing vital imports, while controlling subsidies and improving spending efficiency.

The meeting highlighted the resumption of Article IV consultations between the Yemeni government and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the IMF's approval of the results of these consultations after an 11-year hiatus.
