The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms has documented 5,834 violations committed by the Houthi terrorist militia against women in Yemen between January 1, 2017, and the end of 2025 across 15 governorates.

According to a recent report issued by the organization on the occasion of International Women’s Day, a copy of which was obtained by the Yemen News Agency (SABA), the violations included killings, injuries, abductions, enforced disappearances, and physical and psychological torture, as well as dismissals from public employment and forced recruitment.

The report stated that the field team documented 1,479 killings and 3,398 injuries resulting from artillery and missile shelling, landmine explosions, improvised explosive devices, sniper attacks, and live gunfire.

It also recorded 547 cases of abduction, enforced disappearance, and torture, in addition to 176 cases of forced recruitment involving women and girls, including students.

According to the report, Taiz topped the list of governorates most affected by killings of women, followed by Hodeidah, Aden, Lahj, Marib, Al-Jawf, Al-Dhalea, and Abyan, while the remaining cases were distributed across several other governorates.

The network also verified the deaths of 274 women due to landmines planted by the Houthi militia in public roads, residential neighborhoods, farms, grazing areas, and markets, with the highest number of cases recorded in Taiz, Al-Jawf, Hodeidah, and Al-Dhalea.

Regarding sniper attacks, the field team documented 124 cases of women killed by militia snipers across nine Yemeni governorates. Taiz recorded the highest number with 68 cases, followed by Hodeidah and Aden, in addition to other governorates.

The report also documented 91 cases of women killed by direct gunfire carried out by Houthi militia members across 16 governorates, as well as 46 additional deaths in various incidents including stabbing, being run over by military vehicles, and physical assaults.

Concerning violations inside detention facilities, the network documented 78 cases of torture against women held in both secret and official Houthi-run prisons. According to testimonies from several survivors, detainees were subjected to various forms of torture and degrading treatment, including harassment, sexual assault, and fabricated charges targeting their honor.

The report further revealed 69 cases of enforced disappearance involving women who were abducted by the militia and held in secret prisons for periods ranging from three months to a full year before the fate of some of them was revealed, while others remain missing.

In terms of injuries, the report recorded 3,398 cases of women wounded as a result of Houthi shelling targeting residential neighborhoods, markets, and public gathering places using various types of heavy and medium weapons. Landmines also caused permanent disabilities to 486 women.

The report added that 314 women were injured by sniper fire and 317 by direct gunfire, while another 211 women sustained injuries as a result of physical assaults, stabbing, or being run over by military vehicles.
