MUNICH-SABA
His Excellency President Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) met today, Sunday, with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany Dr. Johann Wadephul, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
The talks focused on Yemeni-German distinguished bilateral relations , developments in the Yemeni national arena and the German and European interventions required to support the Yemeni government's efforts politically, security-wise, institutionally, economically and developmentally.
President al-Alimi expressed his high appreciation for Germany's steadfast position alongside Yemen and its people, and for its active role within the European Union, greatly valued its significant contributions to supporting the humanitarian response plan.
The President confirmed Yemen's support for Germany's right to membership in the Security Council and his aspiration to expand the partnership from managing emergency needs to supporting the state's efforts aimed at restoring its national institutions and ending the humanitarian suffering caused by the Iranian-backed Houthi terrorist militias.
He also expressed his hope to further strengthen the long-standing partnership in the fields of security governance and institutional reform, and to restore the momentum of German development support, including activating technical cooperation, supporting public finance capacities and assisting the central bank in managing fiscal and monetary policy.
The President briefed the German Foreign Minister on the positive developments that Yemen has seen recently, including the unification of political and military decisions with sincere support from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the ending of duplications that hindered the effectiveness of the state, as well as the formation of a more representative government, including the integration of three women into ministerial positions after years of exclusion.
President al-Alimi discredited misleading narratives about a security vacuum following the termination of parallel unilateral measures. He made it clear that what happened was the state's institutions restoring their natural role in monopolizing force, and that a real vacuum arises when weapons are multiple outside the state institutions.
His Excellency affirmed that unifying the security management and ending grievances and human rights violations will enhance the effectiveness of combating terrorism and close the spaces that extremist groups feed on.
The Chairman of the PLC highlighted the need for the German and European role in mobilizing efforts to eliminate the Houthi threat and supporting maximum pressure on the Iranian regime to dismantle its missile and drone systems, warning that any laxity towards its armed factions means the continuation of blackmailing maritime routes and energy supplies.
