RIYADH – SABA
His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed al-Alimi, the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, received the Ambassador of the United States of America, Steven Fagin.
The meeting discussed bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and ways to strengthen and develop them at various levels, in addition to the latest local developments, including recent developments in the eastern governorates, and the required U.S. support for government reform efforts.
The talks also addressed ongoing coordination in the field of counterterrorism and deterring the Houthi militias backed by the Iranian regime and the terrorist organizations cooperating with them.
The President highlighted the notable progress in bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, expressing his appreciation—along with his fellow Council members and the government—for the firm U.S. positions in support of Yemen.
This includes the U.S. decision to designate the Houthi militias as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, efforts to counter arms smuggling and financing networks linked to the Iranian regime, political support at the UN Security Council, as well as valued support for economic reform efforts.
President al-Alimi reaffirmed the importance of continuing this active U.S. role alongside Yemen, its people, and its political leadership, to fulfill aspirations for restoring state institutions, security and stability.
The meeting also addressed unilateral measures taken by the Southern Transitional Council in the eastern governorates, and efforts of the Coalition to Support Legitimacy, led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, aimed at de-escalation and restoring normal conditions in the two governorates to their previous state.
President al-Alimi stressed the necessity of adhering to the governing references of the transitional phase and the approach of partnership among all political components within the framework of the legitimate government coalition.
He warned of the repercussions of imposing any unilateral measures outside the agreed references—foremost the Declaration of Transfer of Power and the Riyadh Agreement—which could affect the unity of security and military decision-making, the independence of the government, and create gaps that could benefit the Houthi militias and affiliated terrorist organizations.
For his part, the U.S. Ambassador affirmed his country’s steadfast position in support of Yemen’s unity, stability and territorial integrity.
He also emphasized Washington’s commitment to the unity of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government, its strong partnership in counterterrorism efforts, alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people and supporting their aspirations at all levels.
