ADEN – SABA
The field teams of the “MASAM” project for mine removal in Yemen has extracted 3,765 mines, unexploded ordnance, and improvised explosive devices from the beginning of November until the 21st of the month.
These had been planted by the Iran-backed Houthi terrorist militias across several governorates.
The Operations Room explained in a statement published by MASAM’s media office that during this period, the teams removed 3,208 unexploded ordnance, in addition to 524 anti-tank mines, 17 anti-personnel mines, and 16 improvised explosive devices, as part of ongoing efforts to clear remnants of war and secure civilian life.
The statement added that the engineering teams removed 875 mines, unexploded ordnance, and IEDs just during the past week, including 498 unexploded ordnance, 367 anti-tank mines, 7 anti-personnel mines, and 3 IEDs.
MASAM reported that its teams were able during the past week to clear 389,668 square meters of Yemeni land, bringing the total area cleared from the beginning of November until the 21st to 1,244,869 square meters.
The project’s General Director, Osama Al-Qusaibi stated that since the project’s launch at the end of June 2018 until November 21 of this year, the teams have removed 525,498 mines, unexploded ordnance, and IEDs, according to an official statement published by MASAM’s media office.
Al-Qusaibi explained in the statement that the total items removed by the engineering teams since the launch of the project include 361,812 unexploded ordnance, along with 8,328 improvised explosive devices, as part of daily operations targeting mine-affected areas to safeguard civilian lives.
He also pointed out that MASAM’s teams have removed 148,373 anti-tank mines and 6,986 anti-personnel mines during the same period—considered among the most dangerous types due to their direct impact on residents and vital routes.
Regarding clearance operations, the Director confirmed that MASAM teams have cleared 73,658,473 square meters of Yemeni land from the project’s launch until November 21, 2025, paving the way for restoring normal life in dozens of areas previously threatened by mines.
