NEW YORK - SABA
Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, along with Council members Major General Aidaroos al-Zubaidi and Dr. Abdullah al-Alimi, met Friday with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.
They discussed with him latest developments in the Yemeni situation, on the sidelines of the meetings of the eightieth session of the United Nations General Assembly.
President al-Alimi praised the role of the United Nations and its Secretary-General, and appreciated efforts in alleviating the human suffering experienced by the Yemeni people, and pushing forward towards achieving comprehensive and sustainable peace in the country.
He renewed the Council and the Government's support for the efforts of the United Nations on all tracks, and their commitment to the peace approach based on the terms of reference for the solution agreed upon locally, regionally and internationally, led by Resolution 2216 as an ideal road map for restoring Yemen's stability and economic and development recovery.
The Chairman of the Leadership Council presented the Secretary-General of the United Nations with the complexities of the economic and humanitarian conditions, which were exacerbated by the attacks of the terrorist Houthi militias supported by the Iranian regime on oil facilities and shipping ships.
The President also reaffirmed the Yemeni government's demands to move the main headquarters of United Nations agencies and international non-governmental organizations operating in Yemen to the temporary capital, Aden, noting in this context the United Nations decision to move the work center of the Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Affairs Coordinator to Aden.
For his part, the UN Secretary-General affirmed the international organization's commitment to working closely with the Presidential Leadership Council and the government in order to help the Yemeni people and achieve their aspirations for security, stability and peace.
Guterres announced further protective measures for humanitarian workers in Yemen, including moving the offices of United Nations organizations to Aden, and restricting dealings with areas controlled by the Houthi militias to a minimum, with the exception of life-saving aid.
