VIENNA - SABA
The Republic of Yemen participated in the meetings of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency, which concluded its work today, Thursday, with a delegation headed by the Yemeni Ambassador to Austria and its Permanent Representative to the Agency, Haitham Shuja al-Din.
In Yemen's speech he delivered in the meeting, Ambassador Shuja al-Din stressed concern about Iran's recent decision to suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, which is a further escalation that would limit the agency's ability to perform its oversight tasks in accordance with the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
Ambassador Shuja al-Din said that it has become important to take steps to formulate a new binding agreement for Iran, which includes removing all concerns related to Iran's nuclear program, its ballistic missile program, and its interference in the affairs of the countries of the region.
He renewed his call on Iran to stop its behavior that destabilizes security and stability in Yemen, the region, and the security of the Red Sea, through its continued support for the Houthi militia, which requires supporting Yemen to protect its lands, in parallel with implementing the decisions to ban the flow of Iranian weapons to the Houthis and enforcing international resolutions related to this matter.
He stressed the need to take practical steps to support the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government in restoring the state and strengthening Yemen's capabilities in order to protect maritime navigation in the Red Sea and Yemen's waterways.
In his speech in Yemen, Ambassador Shuja' al-Din also addressed the suffering of the Palestinian people, saying that the Palestinian people are facing an unprecedented Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip and the Palestinian territories, which has left tens of thousands of martyrs and wounded, most of them women and children, destroyed hospitals, schools and infrastructure, and imposed a stifling siege that has led to famine and unprecedented human suffering.
He expressed Yemen's condemnation of the occupation's policies based on forced displacement and the imposition of a fait accompli by force, in flagrant violation of international law and a repetition of the Nakba policy since 1948.
The ambassador welcomed the position of the countries that declared recognition of the State of Palestine, which is a historic milestone that has been long awaited for decades.
