Yemen Expresses Aspiration for Genuine and Sustainable Peace Based on Agreed upon References
[12/06/2025 08:54]

NEW YORK - SABA
The Republic of Yemen has expressed its aspiration for genuine and sustainable peace based on the agreed upon political solution references led by Security Council Resolution 2216, which represents an ideal roadmap for a comprehensive solution to the Yemeni crisis.

This peace aims to meet the aspirations of the Yemeni people for stability, development, dignity, and the restoration of state institutions based on the rule of law, justice, equal citizenship and the sovereignty of the people.

In a statement delivered Thursday by Yemen's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah al-Saadi, during the open Security Council session on the situation in the Middle East (Yemen), Yemen reaffirmed its outstretched hand for peace, grounded in the belief that a political solution is the best option for the interests of Yemenis, the region and the world.

Yemen renewed its commitment to a peace approach and welcomed the efforts of brothers and friends aimed at achieving peace.

Ambassador al-Saadi stated, "For over ten years, our resilient Yemeni people have been facing compounded crises in their livelihoods and lives, bearing heavy burdens due to the war waged by the Houthi terrorist militias backed by the Iranian regime, which have destroyed state institutions and the livelihoods of Yemenis, leaving one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world."

The hijacking of ships, the planting of naval mines and piracy in the Red Sea did not begin in 2023; rather, it has been a recurring Houthi practice for years, even during ceasefires and negotiations, he said.

We rule out that the Houthi militias and their supporters have any serious intentions to change their destructive behavior.

"Any response from them to de-escalation efforts is merely an obvious attempt to maneuver and deceive to retain their sources of power and reposition themselves to return to the war square and escalate their aggressive approach."

He continued, "It is unfortunate that all attempts made by the Yemeni government, along with regional and international efforts and those of the United Nations to end this crisis, have not succeeded due to the Houthi militias' rejection and obstinacy. All these efforts have failed despite the approval and welcome of the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government to all peace initiatives, including the roadmap adopted by our brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia."

The Houthi militias continued their attacks on oil facilities, targeting civilians and residential areas and military mobilization on various fronts, harming the interests and gains of the Yemeni people and leading to calls for airstrikes and Israeli aggression, resulting in the destruction of infrastructure, including ports, power stations, and airports, as well as the destruction of four Yemeni Airlines planes after they were hijacked and insistently held in Sana'a Airport, even though the Israeli bombardment was anticipated.

The Houthi militias continue their reckless adventures toward further devastation and destruction of the Yemeni people's capabilities."

" All peace efforts have failed to date, and any similar efforts in the future will fail in the absence of a genuine partner for peace. This group does not believe in peace and does not recognize the state or the law; it is an armed ideological group that adopts ideas and concepts of guardianship and divine right to rule over people, rejecting any form of civil state or equal citizenship, and does not believe in civil rights and freedoms nor in political partnership."

He affirmed that the stability of Yemen is a real guarantee for the stability of the region and the world, calling on the international community and all brothers and friends to support the Yemeni government in restoring state institutions and extending its authority over all Yemeni territory to end the conflict, rectify the situation, and dry up the sources of terrorism and chaos, as there can be no development in the midst of violence and conflict, nor a sustainable economy or peace amid armed extortion.

The Permanent Representative of Yemen to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah Al-Saadi, added :"The Yemeni government continues to work on the path of economic, administrative, and financial reform programs, adhering to the five tracks represented in achieving peace, ending the coup, preserving the legal status of the state, combating corruption, enhancing transparency and accountability, administrative and financial reform, developing economic resources, and optimal utilization of external aid and grants."

He confirmed government's commitment to enhancing strategic partnerships with all donor partners and the importance of cooperation and coordination to achieve common goals in overcoming the current challenges that have directly affected its capacity to provide essential services to citizens and implement sustainable development goals.

The government reiterated to regional and international partners that supporting the Yemeni government is an investment in regional and international security and peace, he said. It believes that achieving security and stability in Yemen is an integral part of the security and stability of the region and the world.

Ambassador al-Saadi called on all brothers, friends and international donor organizations to support its efforts so that it can provide essential services and meet its inevitable obligations while enhancing recovery and economic stability.

This support contributes to the international and regional efforts to achieve peace and restore security and stability in Yemen. The government expressed deep gratitude to its brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates for their support to the Yemeni people and government, and for their ongoing developmental and humanitarian interventions during these exceptional and critical circumstances.

He called on the international community and this esteemed council to exert maximum pressure on these militias to respect international humanitarian law and to take strict measures to stop their violations, as well as to immediately and unconditionally release all abductees and detainees.

He said the government renewed its call for serious steps to relocate the offices of UN agencies and international organizations operating in Yemen to the temporary capital, Aden, to ensure the protection of humanitarian and developmental workers and to provide a safe working environment.

The Permanent Representative of Yemen to the United Nations concluded his statement by saying, "In light of the grim picture of the current humanitarian situation, and with the continued halt of oil exports due to Houthi attacks on oil facilities, the decline in funding for humanitarian operations in Yemen has had catastrophic effects across various sectors, particularly the health sector, which has been significantly affected, as evidenced by the recent outbreak of epidemic diseases and fevers in several governorates."

He renewed the call to all brotherly and friendly countries and international donor organizations to support the humanitarian response plan adequately to meet the existing humanitarian needs across various sectors.

He urged the United Nations and the international community to keep the humanitarian situation in Yemen a priority to overcome the current circumstances and avoid a potential health crisis.
