NICE-SABA
The Republic of Yemen participated Monday in the United Nations Ocean Conference 2025, held in Nice, France, under the theme "Accelerating Action and Mobilizing All Actors for Ocean Conservation and Sustainable Use."
The Yemeni delegation was led by Minister of Water and Environment Engineer Tawfiq al-Sharjabi.
The conference, hosted by the governments of France and Costa Rica from June 9 to 13, aims to accelerate global efforts to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, supporting the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 14.
The conference will focus on three main priorities; completing multilateral processes related to the oceans, mobilizing financial resources to support sustainable blue economy development, and enhancing marine knowledge and science to support effective policymaking.
Minister al-Sharjabi stated to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) that Yemen's participation in the conference underscores the government's commitment to protecting the marine and coastal environment despite current challenges.
He emphasized the need to enhance cooperation with the international community to ensure the sustainability of marine resources and develop the blue economy in Yemen's coastal areas and islands, contributing to improved livelihoods for coastal communities.
He also highlighted the challenges facing Yemen's marine environment and the necessity for effective actions to ensure its sustainability.
The minister stressed the importance of collaboration between countries and regional and international organizations to establish sustainable policies that preserve marine biodiversity, reduce pollution, and address the impacts of climate change threatening marine ecosystems and the livelihoods of millions worldwide.
He expressed hope that the conference would help mobilize necessary support for environmental initiatives in Yemen and build strategic partnerships to enhance the capacities of national institutions responsible for water and environment sectors, especially in light of the impacts of climate ch### Yemen Participates in the 2025 United Nations Ocean Conference in Nice
