A delegation from the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) visited today, Monday, the Civil Defense Authority, the Coast Guard and the Aden Police Department. The field-visits program aimed to get first-hand information about the performance of security institutions and boost joint cooperation.
The delegation included the Criminal Investigations Officer Saad al-Jabouri and the Security Evaluation Officer Thierry Fernandez.
They visited the Civil Defense Department and got acquainted on the efforts being made in the areas of public safety and emergency response as well as the challenges facing civil defense amid the current situation.
They were also detailed about the available capabilities, the methods of dealing with reports and incidents and the ongoing coordination between the civil defense and other security and service agencies.
The head of the Department, Maj. General Mohammed Al-Shaba'n celebrated the Interpol's officials visit, describing it as an significant step towards building an effective partnership with Interpol, praising the positive role of the Interpol in supporting security services, improving their capacities and professional training for security personnel.
After that they visited the Coast Guard Authority, where they briefed on the Authority's efforts and procedures to protect the coasts, combat smuggling and maritime infiltration as well as the challenges need to be addressed to enable the Coast Guard doing their job effectively.
The Interpol's officials praised the efforts of the Coast Guard Authority, affirming Interpol's willingness to provide support in areas of training and building technical capacities of the Coast Guard to strengthen maritime security along the Yemeni coasts.
The delegation also visited the Aden Police Department and introduced to the existing cooperation among the security agencies in Aden. They confirmed the Interpol's readiness to provide technical and technological support in security areas.
They noted that the Interpol had previously conducted theoretical and practical training courses on crime scenes, border security, illegal fishing and others.
The Director General of Police Maj. General Mutaher al-Shuaibi highly praised Interpol's role in combating transnational crime and enhancing international cooperation in this field.
