ADEN - SABA
Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awadh bin Mubarak chaired Tuesday a government meeting to discuss efforts to enhance the efficiency of tax and customs institutions in improving the state's access to public resources, the level of reform implementation, addressing imbalances, and strengthening coordination with the national private sector.
The meeting, attended by Finance Minister Salem bin Breik and Minister of Industry and Trade Mohammad al-Ashwal, reviewed several proposals to improve tax efficiency and address imbalances at the central, governorate and district levels to boost public revenues, regulate collection processes and unify customs procedures at entry points.
The meeting also addressed the government's plans at the ministerial and sectoral levels to deal with the reclassification of the Houthi militia as a foreign terrorist organization, ensuring that commercial activities and the national private sector are not adversely affected, facilitating the flow of materials and food supplies, humanitarian and relief work, and coordinating with the international community to direct the requirements of the decision towards its main objectives while minimizing any negative impacts on the Yemeni financial and banking sector and the interests of citizens.
The Prime Minister directed the completion of reform processes in tax and customs aspects, especially in collecting fees from major taxpayers, and regulating collection processes to ensure they are deposited into the public treasury.
He emphasized that relevant ministries and government entities should take measures to implement necessary policies and alternatives and enhance coordination with the national private sector to mitigate potential humanitarian repercussions of the decision on vulnerable social groups in areas controlled by the Houthi terrorist militias.
He also reiterated the government's commitment to ensure that the decision to classify the Houthi militias as a terrorist organization does not impact commercial activities and the national private sector, maintaining the smooth flow of materials and food supplies to safeguard the livelihoods and lives of citizens in areas under the control of the terrorist militias.
