Director of the Planning and International Cooperation Office in Marib Engineer Saleh al-Saqqaf discussed Wednesday with the Field Office Director of the World Food Program (WFP) in the governorate Maria Anguera de Sousa the resumption of the program's distribution process for beneficiaries in the Wadi District here starting from March 11.

The process will be resumed also in the City District, the capital of the governorate, from Thursday, March 13, after the program completed the components of the food parcels.

The meeting also addressed the humanitarian suffering of beneficiaries of food aid provided by the program, including displaced individuals and the host community, due to the delays in the irregular distribution of handing over according to the agreed schedules, particularly amid the economic collapse, rising prices and increasing food insecurity among families.

The meeting emphasized the need to seek funding for the humanitarian needs of the program related to food assistance to meet its commitments and alleviate the impact of the humanitarian crisis, especially in the food sector, which is worsening with the decline in humanitarian funding and the cessation of many UN and international organizations' interventions and support for humanitarian programmes and projects across various sectors.

This has affected the level of services provided to citizens, both displaced individuals and the host community, alongside the increasing cases of food insecurity and malnutrition.

Al-Saqqaf stressed the importance of reinstating the beneficiaries who were removed from the lists of beneficiaries in the food programme, as well as the program commitment to improving the quality of the food assistance provided to meet the basic needs of beneficiaries and ensuring the regularity of distribution cycles.

Meanwhile, the Field Office Director of the World Food Program (WFP) clarified that the delays in distribution cycles during the past year and the beginning of this year were due to a lack of funding from donors for the programme and the suspension of funding from some donors for humanitarian efforts.
