Deputy Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Dr. Nazar Basuhaib discussed Sunday here with the Coordinating Committee for International Non-Governmental Organizations ways to ensure the continuation of humanitarian projects funded by American grants.
The meeting, which included the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation for Projects Engineer Wazira al-Shormani and ministry specialists, addressed the necessary steps to find funding for ongoing projects implemented by organizations supported by American grants following the new U.S. administration's decision regarding foreign aid.
The meeting also discussed the impact of the cessation of support on humanitarian work and the difficulties facing the implementation of humanitarian projects and assistance across all Yemeni governorates due to funding shortages.
The Deputy Minister of Planning confirmed that the government is making significant efforts to secure funding from all partners involved in humanitarian work to continue providing relief, humanitarian and developmental assistance according to urgent needs to mitigate the worsening conditions and challenging situations facing the country in all fields, especially economic and living conditions.
He emphasized the necessity of joint coordination between the ministry and international and UN organizations and the search for mechanisms and ideas that help cover the funding gaps and grants provided by key supporters through suitable alternatives that take into account the current situation.
For its part, the Coordinating Committee expressed its appreciation for the efforts of the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation in providing facilitation, expediting transactions and agreements, and addressing the difficulties they face when implementing activities and projects.
They affirmed their commitment to enhancing partnership and continuing to provide humanitarian support in Yemen across various fields according to the needs plan submitted by the legitimate government.
In another meeting, the Deputy Minister of Planning discussed with the head of the Dutch Doctors Without Borders mission in Yemen Tila Mohammed aspects of support provided by the mission to the health sector in Marib and Taiz governorates.
Dr. Basuhaib praised the efforts of Doctors Without Borders and its humanitarian interventions in supporting the health sector over the past years, calling for increased efforts from the mission to meet the ongoing needs of the health sector in Yemen due to the deterioration caused by the war crisis.
For his part, the head of the Dutch Doctors Without Borders mission praised the cooperation and facilitation provided by the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation to the mission over the past years and the importance of continuing support for the health sector in Yemen.
