VIENNA - SABA
The Republic of Yemen participated Friday in the meetings of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) with a delegation headed by Yemen's Ambassador to Vienna and its Permanent Representative to the Agency, Haitham Shuja’ al-Din.
The meeting discussed issues related to nuclear security and safety, the Agency's performance report, nuclear science and technology, the application of safeguards in Korea and Syria, Israeli nuclear capabilities, and the situation in Ukraine.
Ambassador Shuja’ al-Din, in Yemen's statement during the discussion on verification and monitoring in Iran under United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231 of 2015, highlighted Iran's violations of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.
He reiterated Yemen's absolute rejection of the acts of maritime piracy and attacks carried out by the Houthi terrorist militias, fully supported by the Iranian regime, in Yemen's territorial waters in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea, which only benefit Iran and pose a serious threat to international navigation and global peace and security.
He pointed out that Houthi attacks have militarized the Red Sea, harmed global trade routes, and deepened the humanitarian crisis for the Yemeni people while increasing the economic burdens on Yemen and many countries worldwide.
He called for support for the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government to face of these threats.
The ambassador also addressed the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza and Rafah, as well as the recent escalation in Gaza.
He reiterated Yemen's strong condemnation of the targeting of unarmed civilians, calling on the international community to take a firm stance that compels Israel to respect international humanitarian law and open safe humanitarian corridors immediately.
He emphasized the necessity of allowing humanitarian aid and medical supplies to be delivered without restrictions to alleviate the humanitarian disaster and prevent its worsening.
He affirmed that the only solution to the conflict is the two-state solution and the establishment of a Palestinian state in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
