MARIB - SABA
Deputy Governor of Marib Governorate Dr. Abd-Rabu Miftah discussed with UN officials the updates on the humanitarian situation, the conditions of the displaced, their suffering, and their most important needs during the current stage in the governorate.
This came during his separate meetings today with the Chief Advisor of the United Nations Office for Project Services and Humanitarian Mine Action, Charles Freesby, and the Operations Officer of the United Nations Office for Safety and Security, Ahmed Hamada.
Miftah briefed the UN officials on the latest updates on the humanitarian and relief situation in Marib Governorate, the conditions of the displaced, and their difficult humanitarian and living conditions due to the weak interventions of international partners and the slowness of their response to the displaced and their basic needs.
He also touched on the suffering of the Yemenis due to the mines planted by the terrorist Houthi militias in homes, farms, and public roads, and their random distribution in several governorates, causing the fall of thousands of civilian casualties, mostly women and children. He emphasized the necessity of paying attention to mine victims, providing all forms of care and support for them, advocating for their causes, and ensuring their access to social justice and compensation for the harm.
The deputy governor commended the efforts of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (MASAM) project to clear Yemeni lands from mines, in removing and dismantling hundreds of thousands of mines and explosive devices and clearing Yemeni lands from them, thus sparing Yemenis from their danger.
He emphasized the importance of the United Nations' contribution in training and qualifying specialized local teams in mine clearance and dismantling, as well as training teams for field awareness among the displaced about the dangers of mines, as it is one of the biggest challenges they face.
For their part, the UN officials stated that their visit to Marib Governorate aims to meet with the leadership of the local authority, and to strengthen the partnership and coordination with it in many programs and projects that will be implemented by United Nations organizations and agencies in the governorate in the coming period in all fields, especially in the areas of mine clearance and security and safety.
They expressed their appreciation for the efforts of the local authority and its continued cooperation with United Nations organizations and all international organizations working in the humanitarian and relief fields in the governorate, and providing all the necessary facilities to carry out their tasks and achieve their goals, and to quickly respond to the needs of the displaced in the governorate.
