Deputy Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Dr. Nizar Basuhyb discussed Sunday here with the Deputy Resident Representative of UNICEF in Yemen Luciano Calestini the humanitarian interventions of the organization and the ongoing projects related to supporting the education sector.
The meeting, attended by Mansour Zaid, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, along with several officials from the ministry and the organization, addressed a range of topics, including the progress of the education recovery project implemented by UNICEF and the challenges it faces due to funding shortages, multidimensional poverty surveys, and efforts to align with government priorities for development.
Both parties emphasized the need for government support and continued assistance from active partners, particularly UNICEF, in bridging the significant gap in needs, especially in the education sector, implementing programs for children with special needs and orphans, and supporting the sectoral plans of relevant ministries.
They also highlighted the importance of enhancing partnership mechanisms to serve the common goals of interventions and projects.
Dr. Nizar Basuhyb also discussed with Tijla Mohamed, the Head of the Dutch Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières) mission, the activities of the mission during this year, especially the projects related to primary healthcare and maternal and child care in hospitals and health centers in the cities of Marib, Taiz, and Sayun.
They also discussed the possibility of expanding their healthcare interventions during the year in Dhalae Governorate.
In another meeting, Dr. Basuhyb discussed with Abigail Njuki, the National Coordinator of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Food and Agriculture Security Cluster, the report on the food security response plan in several governorates during the first quarter of the current year and the technical aspects related to its implementation.
Additionally, Basuhyb discussed with Gabriel Osor, the CEO of Valor, the company responsible for implementing the project to enhance civil aviation security at Aden International Airport, the progress of the project's work.
He affirmed the ministry's readiness to provide all necessary facilitations to overcome any difficulties to ensure the project's completion in the shortest possible time.
