CAIRO-SABA
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdul-Malik al-Mekhlafi has renewed Yemen's strong condemnationof the Israeli atrocities against the Palestinian people, especially in the occupied city of Jerusalem.
In an emergency meeting held by the Arab League foreign ministers to discuss the Israeli escalation in Al-Aqsa Mosque, Al-Makhlafi affirmed Yemen's absolute solidarity with the Palestinian people in the face of these violations.
"We in the Republic of Yemen look at Jerusalem as an Arab and Islamic historical symbol the tampering with which cannot be accepted," he said.
"What is being done today by the occupation authorities is an attempt to impose a new status quo in the Holy City."
The Israeli persistence with these measures, al-Mekhlafi said, does notonly hurt the Palestinians, but also provokes the feelings of every Arab and Muslim, and even the international public opinion against racism, occupation and settlement.
He said that the escalation necessitates the achievement of Palestinian reconciliation in an urgent manner, and the unification of ranks among all Palestinian factions.
"We are not exaggerating if we say that the slow pace in resolving the Palestinian issue and obstruction of a just solution and lasting peace is the main reason for creating a conducive climate for extremism andestablishment of terror groups in all religions and sects," said al-Mekhlafi.
The Foreign Minister called on the Arab ministers to assign the Arab representatives in the United Nations to conduct extensive communications within the United Nations, especially in the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly, in order to lobby for a move to stop the Israeli attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque.
He appealed to the United Nations and the international community to move seriously and effectively to stop the Israeli occupation plans aimed at Judaizing Jerusalem.
He called for launching a large Arab campaign, with civil society participation, in the form of rallies and protests in support of the Palestinian people's rights.
Al-Mekhlafi called for a comprehensive lasting solution to preserve the region's stability and prevent bloodshed and conflicts.
