European Commissioner for Technological Sovereignty, Security and Democracy, Hana Verkonen, announced that the European Union (EU) has allocated 525 million euros to support startups in the field of chip design.

Verkonen told reporters on the sidelines of the launch event for a European chip design platform: 'This funding also aims to accelerate the growth of these companies and boost Europe's competitiveness in the semiconductor industry.'

She added: "Strengthening Europe’s position in the global semiconductor industry requires its success in developing its chip design capabilities".

Verkonen stated that the platform will help startups access design tools, technical services, intellectual property, and manufacturing capabilities.
