Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr. Afriah al-Zouba met today, Thursday, with U.S. Embassy Charge d' Affaires to Yemen Neil Hopp and discussed the ongoing developments and the implications of Houthi escalation as well as Yemeni-American bilateral cooperation and support for the Yemeni government and its institutions.
They also talked about maritime security in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandeb, amid the Houthi threats to freedom of navigation, international trade and supply lines, as well as ways to enhance international coordination, support Yemeni forces' capabilities, and empower state institutions to protect coasts, ports and counter sources of threat.
The Foreign Minister underlined the terrorist attacks carried out by the Houthi militias on Taiz governorate, targeting civilians, displaced people, residential neighborhoods and civilian facilities, as well as their escalation on the western coast, Bab al-Mandeb, and several other governorates, and the resulting casualties, waves of displacement, and worsening humanitarian suffering.
Al-Zouba greatly appreciated the American positions is support of the Presidential Leadership Council, the government and state institutions.
The U.S. Chargé d’ Affaires affirmed Washington's rejection of Houthi threats to international navigation security and regional stability, reiterating U.S. support for Yemen’s security, unity and stability.
