The Member of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) Dr. Abdullah al-Alimi met today, Thursday, with the United Kingdom's Ambassador to the Republic of Yemen Abda Sharif and discussed Yemen-British bilateral relations and cooperation as well as the ongoing developments in the national arena and regional and international efforts to support Yemen.
They addressed the worsening humanitarian situation for the displaced caused by the attacks of the Houthi terrorist militias and their ongoing escalation against cities, ports and civil and economic facilities, and the resulting new waves of displacement and increased suffering for civilians.
Dr. Al- praised the British supportive stance in support of the Yemeni government and the Coalition to Support Legitimacy, as well as the role the United Kingdom plays at the UN Security Council in rallying the international position on developments in Yemen and denouncing the escalation by the Houthi terrorist militia.
Al-Alimi highlighted the importance of developing Yemeni-British cooperation in the fields of maritime security, counter-terrorism and anti-smuggling efforts, as well as improving the capabilities of the Coast Guard, the armed forces and security agencies, and tackling networks involved in arms and drug smuggling and illicit financing.
The PLC's member also expressed thanks and gratitude for the development and humanitarian support that the United Kingdom continues to provide to Yemen, citing the recently announced new aid to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people.
He stated that this support represents an important backing for the government's efforts to tackle humanitarian and development challenges, strengthen citizens' resilience, and support the most vulnerable groups.
The British Ambassador confirmed her country's continued support for the PPLC and the Yemeni government.
She stated that the UK is interested in cooperating with regional and international partners to serve security and stability in Yemen and the region.
